The Canadian govenment has announced funding for major rehabilitation of the Alexandra Bridge and the repair and restoration of the Chaudiere Crossing.
The Alexandra Bridge crosses the Ottawa River, providing an important link between Ottawa and Gatineau. Montreal-based construction company Pomerleau is carrying out work to replace sections of the structure and upgrade it to meet latest standards.
The Chadiere Crossing consists of nine structures including masonry arches, steel truss and concrete sections. Recommendations on the repair programme have been made in an engineering report that is now being reviewed.
