Design work is under way for the bridge, which link Guyana and Suriname.

The Guyana government has sent letters of ‘no-objection’ to the Foreign Affairs Ministries of Suriname and China in relation to the construction of the bridge.

In 2010, the then-president Bharat Jagdeo and his Surinamese counterpart, Desi Bouterse, signed an accord for the undertaking of a feasibility study. The bridge has been identified as one of the projects that would further physically integrate the Union of South American Nations.
