The new 36m bridge was lifted, fully glazed, by a 1,000t crane and positioned 13m above the station's domestic service railway lines.

The bridge, known as the Eastern Egress, was jointly funded by the ODA, Department for Transport, and High Speed 1. It will form an important part of the interchange between Stratford International, the Stratford City development the regional station by enabling more direct pedestrian access between the three sites.

It shortens the route between the international and regional stations by 200m and will allow spectators to walk more easily between the two stations when visiting the Olympic Park during the Games.

In a separate announcement this week, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has appointed Atkins as the official engineering design services provider for the London 2012 Games.
