It has been built by Ruskin Construction and the design engineer is Infinity Engineering.

The bridge, which is just over 1km long, will replace the operations of the Merv Hardie ferry in summer and the Mackenzie River Ice Crossing, which is currently used to cross the river in winter.  The fixed bridge will eliminate disruptions during the winter freeze and the spring during break-up of ice.

Extra funding was provided in June to ensure that the bridge would open this year.
