Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development has also selected a preferred design for monument towers intended to accentuate the bridge.
The selected designs are bridge option C – an ‘arched panel’ design - and monument tower option A, which features a pelican motif. Both were the top scoring designs from a public preference poll offered online.
Option C (pictured below) provides arched and rectangular exterior fascia panels, and arches between columns when viewed from beneath the bridge. The design is by Modjeski & Masters.
Monument tower design option A (pictured below) pays tribute to the art deco architectural style of the Louisiana State Capitol building, and the prominent pelican motif references both the state bird - the brown pelican - and the American white pelicans that visit local lakes seasonally. The design is by Reich Landscape Architecture.
The illustrative renderings of the concepts will now move forward into the design stage where they will be refined by engineers and architects.
