The Gold Line Foothill Extension Authority in California, USA, has revealed the design of a freeway crossing that will pay homage to local wildlife and crafts.

Artist Andrew Leicester has worked on the design which features four basket-shaped columns in tribute to the basket weaving of the area's indigenous people. Grooves in the bridge will resemble snake scales.

The design of the US$20 million to US$25 million has been approved by the authority's board and by the California Department of Transportation.
