The project’s initial financial plan was released this week by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Ohio Department of Transportation.

The current total project cost is estimated at US$2.63bn, excluding interest and finncing costs and operational and maintenance costs. The plan says that the two states are considering the used of a design, build, finance, operate and maintain arrangement to deliver the bridge. The approach would involve an availability payment form of public-private partnership.

The Brent Spence Bridge replacement/rehabilitation project covers a 12.5km corridor of the I-75 highway including the crossing of the Ohio River. Both arch and cable-stayed alternatives are being considered for the new bridge.
