The bridge, which would have a total length of about 3.6km, includes two maritime navigation spans.
The Macao government plans to build the new crossing east of the Friendship Bridge as a key route for traffic using the artificial island built to serve the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
The feasibility study on the construction of the Fourth Bridge was submitted in November 2016 to the Chinese government, which has determined that further work is needed in relation to safety in the navigation channels. The Macao government said that it intends to complete the study as soon as possible.
Arup was appointed earlier this year as the Macao government’s consultant on the project, beating four other bidders.
