Contractor crews working for Washington State Department of Transportation are installing the transition span near the eastern shore of Lake Washington in the north-west of the USA. The span is made up of eight girders, each 58m long and weighing 45t.

The span will support the new bridge’s westbound lanes and a cycle and pedestrian path at the eastern end of the new floating bridge. A smaller hinged span for the eastbound lanes was installed last June. Similar spans will also be installed at the west end of the floating bridge prior to its opening in the spring of 2016.

All of the new bridge’s 77 pontoons have now been constructed and delivered to Lake Washington. Joined and anchored pontoons now stretch well over halfway across the lake.
