Hochtief has been awarded the contract to build a new harbour crossing in the English town of Poole. Construction of the Twin Sails Bridge will start shortly and is expected to take 20 months.

"We received extremely competitive bids from six construction companies who were keen to be involved with the project," said the Borough of Poole's strategic director Jim Bright. "Each bid scored very highly in terms of quality and cost, demonstrating the construction industry's desire to be part of such an exciting and iconic project."

The target price to build the bridge and its immediate approach roads is US$28.5 million.

Design of the bridge is by Wilkinson Eyre and Gifford & Partners.
