The government of Japan has announced that it is providing grant assistance amounting to about US$320,000 for detailed design work on five bridge projects in the eastern province of Sri Lanka.
Infrastructure in the province was badly affected by conflict and the new bridges will contribute to a rehabilitation programme. The funding will be used for design work for the Panichchankeni Causeway and a bridge on the A15 (Batticaloa-Trincomalee) road and for four other bridges including a crossing of the Mundeni River.
The project will be implemented by the Road Development Authority under the supervision of the Ministry of Highways & Road Development.
