The bridge was conceived and designed by Knight Architects and AKT II structural engineers and was winner of a limited design competition held in 2012. It is 3m wide and spans 20m across a small side arm of the Grand Union Canal in the middle of the Paddington Basin development

The five 'fingers' of the deck are raised in sequence by hydraulic jacks to different heights, creating a kinetic sculpture and a visual spectacle for the public. The required clearance on the canal is 2.5m height over a 5.5m width at mid channel.
