The directors responsible for the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA, have voted to proved a horizontal net system 6.1m below the deck to prevent people jumping to their death from the bridge.
The net will extend 6.1m horizontally from the bridge. Further studies will now be carried out to cover aspects such as mitigating adverse effects on the historic structure and evaluating the potential for bird collisions.
Four other 'build' alternatives and a 'no build' option had been studied.
