Rwanda’s transport minister said this week that construction of the cross-border bridge to Tanzania is now almost 90% complete.
Completion of the new Rusumo International Bridge is expected to improve cross-border trade when the bridge opens by November this year, said Dr Alex Nzahabwanimana.
The project works include the construction of the 80m-long bridge and and other facilities such as an administration building. The new two-lane bridge will replace the old one-lane bridge constructed 40 years ago.
Upon completion, the new bridge will have the capacity to support 180t from the current capacity of 53t.
