The US Senate has approved a transportation bill for 2008 that adds US$1 billion in funding to address structurally deficient bridges.
The additional money brings the highway funding programme total to US$41.2 billion. The new funds will be apportioned to states under an existing formula and use will be restricted to meet specific bridge needs.
