The joint venture of HDR Engineering and Alta Vista Solutions has won the contract, which involves five years of provision of technical services and research support for the FHWA’s Long-Term Bridge Performance Program. The overall research project is expected to run for 20 years.

The nationwide collection of field data is aimed at leading to better understanding of bridge performance as well as improvements in the predictive modelling of deterioration and the decision-making for capital expenditure.

The joint venture team will be responsible for field data collection using a combination of the FHWA Robotics-Assisted Bridge Inspection Tool (Rabit), traditional bridge inspection and non-destructive evaluation and testing techniques.
