Six people have been reported injured and several vehicles were damaged in the collapse of the Boca de Uchire Bridge on Venezuela's national highway 9.
The bridge is on the main highway between the central and eastern parts of the country and the transport ministry has instigated an emergency plan to reopen the route.
Local media reports say that the engineering institution Centro de Ingenieros del Estado Anzoátegui had recently warned that the bridge was in such poor condition that it could collapse.
