The new Zezelj Bridge replaces a bridge destroyed in April 1999 during NATO bombing and will feature two steel arches and incorporate the central pier of the old bridge.

It will be built by a Spanish-Italian consortium of AZVI, Tadei and Horta Koslada, which met all required criteria and offered the lowest price of 10 tenders for the project. The arches will be built on the shore and then placed using barges, which significantly reduces the cost of construction.

The total length of the bridge is 474m and it will have 11,800t of steelwork. Construction is due to begin in summer and take 32 months.

The construction of the bridge is co-financed by the EU, the province of Vojvodina, the city of Novi Sad and Serbian Railways.
