Construction of the Fuyuan Road Bridge over the Xiangjiang River is to begin in China's Hunan province in the second half of this year.
The preliminary design of the bridge for the city of Changsha has been approved at provincial level and detailed design is about to start.
The 31.5m-wide steel basket arch bridge will carry traffic 1.4km across the Xiangjiang River. Steel arch construction is expected to be completed in 2011 with the bridge open to traffic before the end of 2012.
