Tasks include professional engineering services related to bridge, highway and traffic engineering as well as preparation of procurement documentation for the newly accelerated bridge over the St Lawrence.

Champlain Bridge is one of Canada's busiest crossings and carries some US$20 billion in international trade each year. The existing 3.5km bridge was built about 50 years ago primarily of reinforced concrete beams supported by concrete piers. Corrosion caused by road salt and the high volume of heavy vehicles have contributed to the deterioration of the structure and led to the need for extensive maintenance.

Arup’s latest contract follows an earlier role that began in August 2012 when it was appointed to advise on the initial phases of replacing the bridge.
