Bidding process starts for Knik Arm Crossing
The Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority (KABATA) has issued a request for qualifications as it starts the process to find a concession company to build the new Knik Arm Crossing.
The Knik Arm Crossing will be built in Alaska, USA, under an availability payment public-private partnership. The chosen concessionaire will design, construct, finance, operate and maintain the bridge. The scheme involves associated roads as well as the toll bridge crossing Cook Inlet between Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna borough.
KABATA is encouranging potential bidders to attend a workshop in Anchorage on 18 August. Statements of qualifications are due in by 15 September.
KABATA expects to announce a shortlist of qualified proposers by the middle of October, with a request for proposals issued at the end of the first quarter 2012. The current project schedule anticipates financial close in time for the 2013 construction season.
“We are pleased with the feedback we received last month during our industry workshop and one-on-one meetings in New York,” said KABATA’s board chairman Michael Foster. “The workshop demonstrated significant industry interest in the project.”
