The government had issued an optimistic statement last week, saying that 18 teams had acquired the documentation needed to tender for the project, with half of the interested parties coming from outside Turkey. Four Japanese companies as well as two from Russian and and one each from Spain, Austria,
and Italy had acquired the documents.

Yesterday was closing date for submissions after the date was put back at the request of potential tenderers. In total 33 companies had expressed interest in the project.

The North Marmara highway project includes the building of a third bridge spanning the Bosphorus, also known as the Istanbul Strait. The overall project involves a 414km highway connecting Adapazari on the Asian side of the Marmara region to the Tekirdag district on the European side. The bridge will include a railway line.
