Cost of the record-breaking 36km-long sea bridge is US$1.42 billion, with just over half the construction funds coming from China's private sector in what is the country's first ever private sector investment in a public infrastructure project. Surfacing is due for completion by November, well ahead of the Olympic Games which start in Beijing in August 2008. Completion of the bridge will cut the road journey from Shanghai to Ningbo from 400km to just 80km.
