Local media reports in the US state of California say that at least 30 large bolts have snapped on the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge.
California's Department of Transportation, Caltrans, is believed to be investigating suspected quality issues with the bolts themselves and considering replacing all 288 bolts.
There is no mention of the issue as yet on the official project website, but the area's Metropolitan Transport Commission has included news reports on the topic in its list of today's headlines.
