Local reports say that China and North Korea have begun construction of an 804m-long bridge over a river separating the two countries.
The US$22m Tumen River Bridge is expected to open in 2015 or 2016 and will provide a new route for bilateral trade.
The old bridge was in disrepair and had safety issues.
