The Highways Department of Bangladesh has signed an agreement with Chinese company Major Bridge Engineering to construct the Paksey Bridge over the River Padma. The 1.8km long, 18m wide bridge, about 100km north-west of the capital Dhaka, is being built with Japanese assistance at a cost of US$121 million, and will be the second longest bridge of the country, connecting the northern region with the south-west.
