The crossing is part of the new 23.3km-long Pune Metro Line 3 and will connect Aundh Road and RBI Chowk metro station in the city of Pune, around 149km south-east of Mumbai.
Once complete, the first level of the viaduct will carry vehicular traffic as well as a local rapid-transit bus system, while the second level will serve light rail trains.
The double-decker viaduct is co-funded by the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. It is expected to cost US$68,4 million (Rs. 570 crore) and is being constructed by the Pune IT City Metro Rail.
At the begining of April the first of the 8.5m-wide segments for the 1.6km-long structure were launched. The project is expected to conclude in March 2025.
