Crews yesterday began drilling the first test shaft for the piers of the replacement for the I-35W bridge that collapsed into the Mississippi River in August.
A joint venture of Flatiron-Manson is building the bridge to a design by Figg Bridge Engineers. Features of the bridge include high-performance concrete for superior durability, multiple levels of structural redundancy and a comprehensive monitoring system.
Driving of the bridge's H-beam piles will begin on Monday 5 November.
