Construction set to begin of long-awaited bridge over the Zambezi
Construction is about to start of the long-awaited Kazungula Bridge linking Botswana and Zambia across the Zambezi River.
The vice presidents of both countries will officiate at a groundbreaking ceremony on 12 September.
The idea of building the bridge dates back to the late 1980s but border issues had to be resolved before it could be built. Eventually, Botswana reached an agreement to construct the bridge in partnership with the Zambian government.
In July, the president of the African Development Bank stressed the urgent need to build the bridge, describing it as the most important project that the bank is currently financing on the continent.
