The team, which is led by Modjeski & Masters, will look into the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load & Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Movable Highway Bridge Design Specifications.

The project was awarded by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies under the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP).

M&M's moveable bridge business unit will lead a team that includes Professor Andy Novak from Auburn University, Professor Ian Buckle from the University of Reno-Nevada and consultant Hardesty & Hanover.

The aim is to develop and incorporate a reliability-based methodology into the design of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and traffic/marine elements and systems for moveable highway bridges. In addition, the project will lead to proposed revisions to the AASHTO design specifications.

The research project is currently in its planning phase and is anticipated to be completed by September 2020.
