BMD Constructions has been awarded the contract to build the new Olympic Highway bridge at Kapooka, about 7.5km south of Wagga Wagga. The existing bridge, which was built in 1880, features two 90° bends on the approaches and there has been a history of crashes. In addition, the bridge is the only remaining section of the Olympic Highway posing a restriction for heavier freight vehicles.

Roads & Maritime Services is taking the opportunity to realign the highway during the replacement of the existing bridge, which crosses the main southern railway line. The Australian and NSW governments are each contributing half of the funding for the new bridge.
