Legacy Contracting submitted the lowest bid for the construction of the Minto Island Pedestrian Bridge, which has been designed by OBEC Consulting Engineers.

Four other contractors - all of them from Oregon or Southwest Washington - also submitted bids to build the structure, which is officially called Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge after a local councillor.

The steel and concrete footbridge will span the Willamette Slough from the south end of Riverfront Park and connect to Minto Brown Island Park. Site preparation will likely start in April, said Legacy president Jeff Howell, with work in the river beginning by June.

The bridge and associated trail will cost a total of about US$10 million to develop (link opens in new tab) and will add a new link in a network connecting 1,000 acres of parks and more than 32km of off-street trails.
