An 80m bridge over an interstate highway gives safe and secure access to a lakeshore park in Buffalo, New York, USA.

The steel tied arch bridge in Ralph Wilson Park is built from a design by sbp that was selected by the community (link opens in new tab). The structure is supported by a reticulated mesh that connects the arches to the longitudinal beams.

It was installed earlier this month by Danny’s Construction Company. The design shields pedestrians from the noise and traffic of the interstate, while framing the view of Lake Erie.

The bridge was fabricated in Italy by Cimolai and transported by sea and up the Erie Canal by Carver Companies. The contractor was Gilbane Building, with Crystal Steel Fabricators as a subcontractor.
