A major roads agency has announced a design competition for a low-carbon footbridge for use in England.

National Highways, the government-owned company that operates, maintains and improves major roads in England, has launched a footbridge design competition. The aim is to find a design suitable for use on the Lower Thames Crossing and also across the wider road network.

Entries will be judged on use of low-carbon materials and methods. Judges will also look for good design principles that allow ease of access and create a pleasant crossing environment.

The contest is open to qualifying engineering and architectural firms. For full details, visit the National Highways low-carbon footbridge page (link opens in new tab).
