A section of flyover under construction in Delhi, India, collapsed yesterday killing two people and injuring up to 30. The flyover is part of a series of new lines being built for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
Each span of the flyover is made of 12 precast concrete segments and local reports say that the initial inspections point to a mechanical failure in the erection gantry.
Ten of the span's 40t segments had already been raised and the accident is reported to have happened while the 11th was being lifted. The entire span collapsed.
