Shanghai has confirmed plans for a 7km bridge across the Yangtze River as part of a 52km expressway linking Chongming Island and Jiangsu Province. The bridge will provide a connection to the small city of Qidong.
The expressway is the final phase of a project to link Shanghai, Chongming and Jiangsu. Its southern end will meet up with the huge bridge and tunnel scheme being built to connect Pudong with Chongming via Changxing Island.
Detailed design is under way for the Shanghai-Chongming-Jiangsu project, which is expected to be completed in about 2010.
