The Canadian city of Calgary has released images of Santiago Calatrava's design for a new pedestrian and cycle crossing of the Bow River.
The Peace Bridge will be 130m long, with a single span. It will be enclosed with a canopy to support year-round use and lit for the benefit of night-time users.
The bridge features a 6.2m-wide pathway, which is double the width of other pedestrian bridges in the area. There will be a clear separation between pedestrian and cycle traffic.
Tendering for the construction contract is expected to take place in the autumn with work starting on site this year.
Construction cost is put at about US$16.6 million, with architectural and structural design, specialised engineering and quality assurance accounting for about US$3.6 million. Calatrava's fee is about 12% of the total construction cost. Project administration and contigencies are costed at US$2.25 million.
