Panama's president Ricardo Martinelli has announced that his government will support the construction of a fourth bridge crossing the Panama Canal.
Expansion of the canal and the subsequent introduction of larger vessels means that the Bridge of the Americas would have to be replaced by a larger structure that would allow their passage, he said.
Martinello made the announcement during an event in connection with tendering for a new masterplan for road reorganisation in Panama City. The masterplan also includes the construction of four viaducts and a bridge.
