The bridge one of three key design projects announced today for the US$295 million second stage of the redevelopment of the Melbourne Park in the Australian state of Victoria. The other design projects are for a new administration and media building – to be designed by Hassell - and the refurbishment of the Rod Laver Arena, which will be designed by Cox Architecture.

"The three projects each attracted submissions from a world-class contingent of the best local and international firms,” said David Hodgett, minister for major projects in the state government. He said that designers were clearly excited by the chance to design the Batman Avenue footbridge, with 21 firms making submissions for the high-profile addition to the city-scape.
