Dubai's prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the design of the seventh crossing over Dubai Creek. The bridge, to be known as the 'Dubai Smile', will carry six lanes in each direction across the 400m-wide waterway.

It features an inverted 100m-high arch that has been likened to a smile and is intended to offer a welcome to visitors.

The US$220 million project also includes road, underpass, interchange and bridge construction for the approaches.
