The pedestrian suspension bridge, a popular local landmark and tourist photo spot, was filmed twisting and buckling like paper as winds exceeding 185km/h and torrential rain battered the region. This dramatic scene unfolded just days after Typhoon Galmegi devastated the central Philippines, killing over 230 people, followed by Fung-wong’s landfall on November 9, which claimed at least 18 more lives and displaced more than 1.4 million residents.
Local authorities conducted an immediate on-site inspection after the viral footage circulated. It was confirmed that no one was on the bridge during the storm and the structure showed no serious damage. The Camaligan Suspension Bridge remains intact and safe for use, though monitoring continues due to concerns about cumulative stress from extreme events.
