The 3.17km bridge over the Panguil Bay in the Philippines officially opened last week.

Design and build of the bridge on Mindanao, in the south of the archipelago, started in 2020, after delays and budget constraints (link opens in new tab).

Panguil Bridge carries two lanes of traffic on 13m carriageways, reducing the travel time between Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte to seven minutes from two hours.

The crossing features an extra-dosed main bridge with a 320m central span supported by two 20m pylons anchored by six cable stays, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways for the Republic of the Philippines.

The contractor was a joint venture of three Korean firms, Yooshin, which deployed advanced bridge technology during the build. Techniques included use of reverse circulation drilling to create boreholes, and the use of revolving crane barges and vibro pile hammers to launch steel casings. The project also produced its own ready-mixed concrete on two land and sea-based batching plants.
