The bridge is almost 1km long and has a main span of 376m and a single 200m-tall pylon.
The bridge is seen as vital in solving the city's traffic problems and Tadic spoke in favour of bridges that present engineering and scientific challenges, rather than being purely architectural or artistic. He praised the special role of builders of bridges, roads, rail and infrastructure projects.

Final segment placed for Belgrade bridge
The final steel span was placed yesterday for a new cable-stayed bridge across the River Sava in Belgrade, Serbia.
Placement of the span took place in a ceremony attended by officials including Serbian president Boris Tadic and Belgrade mayor Dragan Djilas. Contractor for the scheme is Porr and completion is due before the end of the year.
