The options are described as a helictical multiple spiral, cable-stayed, traditional lattice-work beam or bowstring arch suspended footbridge. They have been produced by Lincolnshire County Council Highways Alliance, a partnership between May Gurney, Mouchel Highways, Peek Traffic Signals and the county council’s highways department.
The footbridge is needed because the opening of a new road will close a level crossing, leaving pedestrians without any way of crossing the railway line to get to the town centre.
Events were held on Thursday and Friday last week so that residents could view their designs and vote for their favourite. "The bridge will be a significant component in the regeneration of Sleaford town centre and will represent the latest phase in the continued evolution of the townscape," said senior project leader Lee Rowley. "We’ll add the votes up at the end of the event and use the scores to inform the decision on which footbridge to go ahead with."
