The Canadian province of Manitoba has announced that it will give the city of Winnipeg additional funding, which will eliminate the need to close the busy Disraeli Bridge for 16 months. The city will receive an additional US$50 million for its roads over 10 years.
The closure had been proposed as part of the bridge's original US$131.5 million rehabilitation plan but the extra funding will allow part of the crossing to remain open during the work.
Construction is expected to begin next year. Winnipeg is currently reviewing proposals from three consortia as part of a competitive procurement process for the project.
