The road beneath the bridge remains closed to traffic while the city and its contractor work to remove the damaged girders.

The project involves replacing a century-old bridge that carries 102 Avenue, a major east-west corridor into and out of Edmonton's downtown. The new bridge has a clear span of approximately 100m and will maintain the existing four-lane configuration as well as carrying cycle lanes and footpaths.

Closure of the original bridge took place in July last year and its replacement had been due to be completed this autumn.
