The Clyde Arc was closed on 14 January following the failure of one of the forged steel fork connectors that tie the hangers to the bridge arch. Inspections led to the discovery of damage to the same component on another hanger. Glasgow City Council and contractor Nuttall decided to replace all 28 fork connectors with new components that have been manufactured using milled steel and load-tested off site.

The bridge remains under its original maintenance contract with Nuttall and the remedial works have been carried out at no cost to the public.
