The bridge, which is in Bangladesh, was opened in 1998 and cracks are becoming increasingly visible, according to the authority. An investigation carried out last year concluded that the cracks in the superstructure are mainly due to temperature and shrinkage stresses. The consultancy contract will include a review of earlier reports and the contractual obligations that are in place, as well as investigation of the causes of the cracks and possible remedial measures.
