The launch of the Sombrio Bridge across a ravine on Vancouver Island, Canada, was successfully completed last week.
The fast-tracked task involved erection of structural steel for the new two-lane bridge.
Infinity is the construction engineer for erecting the structural steel, which has involved incrementally launching four girder lines simultaneously over two spans of 40m and 82m. The launch relies on a counterweight system, eliminating the need for a nosing or a temporary tower in the longer span, which crosses a deep ravine with difficult access conditions.
