Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced that concrete placement is now complete for the south approach spans of the new I-35W St Anthony Falls Bridge. Work on the main span can now begin, with the first pair of segments scheduled for erection later this week.
The bridge will replace the one that collapsed in August last year.
More than 100 of the 120 segments have already been cast, with another nine due to be built this week.
The new bridge has been designed by Figg Bridge Engineers and is being built by Flatiron-Manson. The 437-day design and build contract is due for completion by 24 December this year.
